Mia Mia Mia brings attention to the three different meanings of the word “mia”: a Korean and Japanese word for girls (mia); the Chinese characters for “a missing child” (迷兒); and MIA, which stands for “Missing In Action.” Focusing on young Korean and Japanese women, the performance presents memories of women’s bodies, labor, employment, and everyday concerns from the past to the present in an autobiographical and satirical manner, through video, movement, and text. Remembering and documenting women’s labor that transcends language and nationality, the performance captures the lives and concerns of “working women.”
Heejin Kim began as a playwright, but now also works as a performer and director. As part of ‘Theatre Company Knee’, Kim creates works based on the other, space, and identity in everyday and “non-everyday” life. She explores multicultural, multilingual, and multi-genre theatrical writing as well as collaborative creations through physical writing and ubiquitous theater.
