None Elected tells the stories of the people who first drafted Korea’s Constitution and built its government, taking as its backdrop the period around May 10, 1948, when an independently elected constituent assembly approved the Constitution and announced the founding of the Korean government. The work builds on a rich archive of official documents, memoirs, biographies, and real-time transcriptions, and also uses imagination to show the other side of processes of constitutionwriting that took place outside the assembly. These developments are presented through the format of filming a documentary TV show. Looking closely at the processes behind the making of the Constitution and the Korean government reminds us that the things we now take for granted as ‘justice’ or ‘fairness’ are the results of mutual negotiation and agreement, reached in the earliest stages of the social contract.
