The play Chicken Game by Theatric Company Bluebear, which received 2014 Doosan BIGBOY Award, is a black comedy that addresses social and political issues in the form of a TV debate show. “Chicken Game”, also the name of the said debate show, is a political term that explains a situation in which two parties will face negative consequences unless one yields to the other. Although it deals with sensitive real-life issues such as the controversy over online comments made by a member of the National Intelligence Service, the play itself is presented as a “show” with interactive and entertaining devices featured throughout the play, such as games and public votes via text message. As the head of the NIS and a member of the opposition party enter the stage and begin a heated debate, the panels play the “chicken game” and gradually become obsessed with the games and ensuing outcomes instead of focusing on having a productive debate.
