Hysterie, Anxiety and Dancing Granny
The winner of the 14th DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Award, Ojin Lee debuted as a playwright and went on to build a directorial career. As a member of Tiger Power Theater, she has been focusing her attention on women’s narratives. Lee transforms the theater from a space of represen-tation into a space of experiential and sensory exchange in which creators vividly experience the writer’s themes and views and present their experiences to the audience. Hysterie, Anxiety and Dancing Granny is a hybrid musical play for anxious women. Female creators in their 20s through 50s participated in the production, writing their own narratives about life’s insecurities, anger, and poverty. Starting with the question, “How should I live today to be able to become a dancing granny in the future?”, the creators weave anxiety, shame, and sorrow into movement and melody.
