Written by British playwright Luke Owen, Unscorched is about the relationship between work and one’s private life. Tom, committed to helping others, begins working in the child protection sector as an analyzer of videos of child abuse. Having to watch unforgivable criminal acts on a daily basis, Tom tries to retain his humanity by watching comedies or going on dates. As his professional life seeps into his private life, Tom finds it increasingly difficult to separate the two. There are countless professions in society, and everyone does something for a living. Through this piece, Hoyoung Choi asks questions about how we should go on if our work ethic ends up destroying our private life.
Hoyoung Choi is an actor and director and the founder in 2016 of Kirkos. Driven by the motto to create “sustainable, developable art,” Kirkos pursues creative methods in which each individual becomes the subject. It produces contemporary pieces that explore current issues about the functions of humans, society, and life, social ethics, and coexistence in a plural society.
