Sacheon-ga is a new twist on pansori, the traditional solo narrative performance, crossing the boundaries of genre between musical and drama. Young pansori performer Lee Jaram presents the story borrowed from Bertolt Brecht’s Good Woman of Szechuan, inspired by the formal similarities shared by pansori and Brecht’s epic theater, with its mix of singing and dialogue and the actors directly addressing the audience. Sacheon-ga is the 21th-century version of the centuries-old form pansori, flavored with elements of European epic theater.
